Competition project | Sofia, Bulgaria | 2013
The competition “Art in the panel block spaces in Sofia” challenged us to delve into a pressing issue for many Bulgarian cities. The monotony and greyness of the panel buildings can often defer people from appreciating the true strengths of this architectural style.
The concept was to create coloured glass installations inspired by a simple method used by our grandparents to make their black-and-white TVs more interesting – adding a colour glass filter over the monochrome TV screen. To turn the grey landscape of Sofia’s Soviet neighbourhoods we wanted to create 5 COLOURED GLASS installations in different locations, thus providing a different view to the panel block spaces.
The RESULT: 5 installations by which everyone could create a collage from the existing environment via coloured glass panels. The glass panels are movable and so the installations can always be different and dynamic – a provocation to try and see the existing view through new lens each time. A reminder that our environment is constantly changing and people are those who set its direction.
