Pavilion | Veselie, Bulgaria | 2017 – In progress.
Project for an extension and new roof of an existing building in the village of Veselie, Burgas.
The extension adds a new modern kitchen and a spacious living area, which is as open as possible to the surrounding yard. It is adapted to the slope of the terrain so that it fits in as harmoniously as possible. Its contour allows the existing walnut tree to be preserved and a more secluded outdoor area to be created “under the walnut tree.”
The contemporary architecture of the extension contrasts with that of the old house, which helps to lighten the overall look. The south and west facades are set back and almost entirely glazed. This setback helps to shade the interior and forms an outdoor covered terrace, which is a transitional space between the interior and the yard.
The exterior walls are planned to be clad with wood, and the horizontal floor and roof slabs with natural kourasanit plaster. This emphasizes the structure of the extension and contrasts with the white plaster that will be used to renovate the old house.
The natural materials, simple and clean forms and solutions, and the connection with the courtyard spaces create a contemporary yet nature-friendly architecture.
The second part of the project involves changing the roof and creating a second floor above the house in the previously unused attic space. Two additional large bedrooms with a shared bathroom have been developed on this floor. This completes the project, providing all the necessary modern living conditions and allowing larger groups of family guests to gather and stay overnight.
